JOIN US: Wilshaw Engineering is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer

Wilshaw Engineering is looking for a senior structural engineer, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a mining processing and plant environment.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager and Procurement & Contract Administrator, with functional reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll provide efficient, innovative and practical design solutions to a wide variety of complex mineral process plant, including:

  • work platforms
  • underground equipment
  • ventilation equipment
  • vent fan installations
  • shaft sinking
  • escapeways
  • slurry and process pumping
  • plant upgrades and modifications

You’ll provide technical support on all stages of a product from research and development to design, manufacture, through to installation and commissioning to required project milestones and to Wilshaw’s quality assurance standards.

This includes:

  • Delivering high-quality engineering to enhance our reputation and support our organisational goal of continuous improvement
  • Complying with all statutory regulations and Australian and International standards as appropriate
  • Complying with company policies and procedures as they are developed, replaced, amended or varied from time to time
  • Complying with all Wilshaw quality standards within the engineering department
  • Upholding the values of Wilshaw Engineering
  • Providing structural engineering design for new plant and processes and/or modifications to mining processing plant and systems
  • Ensuring all design projects are completed by required deadlines and within lump sum constraints (if applicable)
  • Keeping up to date with new materials and technologies
  • Conducting research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for improved processes
  • Designing cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability
  • Providing technical support to manufacturers, subcontractors, site and client personnel as appropriate
  • Ensuring calculations are accurate
  • Working collaboratively with other engineers and external manufacturers to solve complex problems
  • Ensuring technical queries from manufacturing contractors and installation contractors are responded to in a timely manner
  • Preparing cost, time and resource estimates for engineering projects
  • Liaising with clients, contractors and suppliers
  • Preparing and delivering engineering presentations internally and externally
  • Determining staffing requirements for projects
  • Ensuring products can be made reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments
  • Using new materials and technologies as appropriate
  • Planning and designing new production processes
  • Producing details of specifications and outline designs
  • Recommending modifications
  • Considering cost, safety and time constraints
  • Using research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly those in mathematical modelling and computer aided design (CAD)
  • Attending internal and client design meetings
  • Attending site if required
  • Obtaining prices from suppliers
  • Checking drawings
  • Forging strong working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and the Wilshaw team

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Member of Engineers Australia
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a structural engineering role in a mining processing and plant environment (essential)
  • At least 5 years’ project management experience
